LETTER TO CAMILA SVENSON, 10TH DECEMBER 2019 / CARTA PARA CAMILA SVENSON, 10 DE DEZEMBRO DE 2019

LETTER TO CAMILA SVENSON, 10TH DECEMBER 2019

svenson, you know,
there’s not much space to stop on the road.
we dance around mountains with allegiance to impulse.
it’s beautiful.
makes the eye a little green.
i am as silent as someone speaking.
(do you see the dirt-glass windows?
you’re looking through them.)

and if i write you it’s not
out of boredom, but to make
a beginning.
from a moving target.
i wanted to put up a billboard,
massive, that says:
TAKE CARE
we should observe these formalities
with some grace, don’t you think?
anyway, i’m getting sad. now
tell me about you.
about what your mountains are made of.

(você vê as sujeiras do vidro?
você está vendo através delas.)

e se te escrevo não é por
tédio, mas pra começar
a te escrever.
desse ponto móvel.
queria construir um autidór
imenso, escrito:
PASSAR BEM
devíamos aprender esta formalidade
com alguma graça, você não acha?
enfim, ando triste. agora
me conta de você.
de como se chamam suas montanhas.

LETTER TO CAMILA SVENSON, JANUARY 3RD, 2020 / CARTA PARA CAMILA SVENSON, 03 DE JANEIRO DE 2020

LETTER TO CAMILA SVENSON, JANUARY 3RD, 2020

svenson, it looks like another
year begins.
I stand before the fiction
shelf.

sorry for the delay
I’m traveling
and, as you know,
I didn’t expect to travel so soon.

I am still getting used
to the idea of the trip – as I travel.

like the cold, which is an idea and hurts.

well, I don’t understand anything
anyone says.

this is fabulous, scary.

I can only say “thank you”.

people here are addicted to fireworks.
fireworks are outlawed in the country
there can only be fireworks
on the first and last days of the year.

this new year’s eve there was a fire at Krefeld’s zoo.
the fire destroyed the monkeys’ cage.
more than 30 animals burnt to death.

Three women, a mother and two daughters,
surrendered to the police yesterday, january 2nd,
because they saw the news and suspected the fire
was caused by the chinese baloon they festively flew.

I can’t imagine how that feels like.

here we never see people’s hands.
only when they eat.
I can’t trust anyone
without the image of their hands.

there it is: how are you doing?
what are you doing with yours?

CARTA PARA CAMILA SVENSON, 03 DE JANEIRO DE 2020

svenson, parece que mais
um ano começa.
estou diante da estante
de ficção.

desculpe a demora,
é que estou viajando
e, você deve imaginar,
não esperava viajar tão cedo.

estou ainda me acostumando

no último e primeiro dias do ano.

ME DEIXA OUVIR O QUE VOCÊ ESTÁ VENDO / LET ME LISTEN TO WHAT YOU’RE SEEING

LET ME LISTEN TO WHAT YOU’RE SEEING

with Nathalia Gastim

I am in front of Nathalia, who is turned towards me, but with her eyes sunken into viewmaster slide-viewing 3d binoculars. Nathalia gazes at the images, pressing the button so the next image can show itself on the visor, and narrates to me what she sees.

she says: an older
couple.
she is beautiful
and the desert, behind.

          [click] – [next]

wheelbarrows,
three people.
the sky. and the desert.

I ask: the same?

she says: no.

          [click] – [next]

a woman weaving…

and another one, beside her,
doing something else.

and she is doing that…
in the middle
of nowhere.

I ask: in the desert?

she answers: not necessarily.

          [click]

now it looks like the desert.
and the two women from the first one.

no meio
do nada.

eu pergunto: no deserto?

ela responde: não necessariamente.

          [tec] — [próxima]

agora parece o deserto.
e são as duas mulheres do começo.
