começou a abanar a cauda e baixou ambas as orelhas;

There laid Argos, the dog, fully covered with ticks
when it noticed Odysseus, who was standing nearby;
while wagging its tail, the dog, then, lowered its ears,
but it was not able to come any closer to its
master; Odysseus glanced aside and wiped a tear.

By the dark fate of death Argos was finally caught,
after the passing of twenty years, when it saw Odysseus.
